I learned to help out around the house while I was 11 - 12 years old or even younger. Thanks to my sisters and mum, I was able to cope well. I would not have accomplished so much without them.
Started to cook almost everyday throughout Pri 6 & Sec 1. Sometimes, we complained about it due to restlessness and laziness, still we persevered. Sometimes, our cooking were bad. We managed to survive without getting the kitchen charred.
Me and my sister would take turn to cook. Changing diapers, bathing our younger siblings, taking them out to play, teaching them ABC, guiding them to walk, toilet training, bring them back and forth to school, etc... We enjoyed doing and had alot of fun. Plus, we managed to finish our homework, with occasions of forgetfulness. Amazing right?
Our parents were busy with their problems and works. We were too young to understand.
One day, mum told me to start work at a well-known uniform stall during school holidays. I was only 13 years old. Good experience. I enjoyed working there. Learnt how to organise clothes into different categories and visited many different schools. I felt a pang of sadness when leaving because the people there were hospitable. Most of the customers were parents.
Then, money earned was to pay school fees and help the household. I agreed.
I was almost 14. My mum brought me for an interview at MacDonald's Restaurant near our house then. I was unsure about what were ahead of me. So I followed my mum's suggestion. I worked at the restaurant for more than 2 years. Stopped working when I was to take my 'O' Levels.
Many incidents had happened. I will touch on them later on.
I thought I should have shared with my parents. I was unsure then because they were all so busy with their own things... Afraid I might upset them.
Sometimes, I wish to become the highly positive person I used to be.
We can't turn back the time. So, I will do with what I have now, step by step. I'm touching my past, because I don't mind about them anymore. It's time to share with others. Which I think it's good to let them know they are not alone, suffering and struggling. Shall continue again.
May all be happy :)
